Problem, Process & Solution
Our Challenge
Focusing on Mental Wellbeing, we aim to identify the weakest area of wellbeing of our target audience and look to strengthen this area to help improve their quality of life.
Our Design Process
We will be sure to highlight the research findings & design process of the application in this case study. Here is our design process and structure following the project:
Research - Gathering Qualitative & Quantitative data to identify Gym Enthusiasts’ weakest way of wellbeing. (The 5 ways of Wellbeing: Connection, Health, Learning, Curiosity & Generosity)
Ideation - Forming the project direction & brainstorming different approaches to create a product users' will actively want to interact with to strengthen their wellbeing.
Design - Prototyping & iterating through refinements based on user testing feedback to address the problem statement and help user's improve their mental wellbeing.

Research Findings - Process & Analysis
Gym Enthusiasts lack Social Interactions
In interviews, there were numerous mentions in regards to a lack of social activity outside user's family post-education. Many wish to socially interact however refrain out of respect to not interrupt another persons workout. We will look to strengthen this area of their life.
60% of Gym Enthusiasts are open to Learning
The second weakest area of wellbeing was Learning however many more enthusiasts are open to learning, with 94% of users admitting that they are curious we could look to develop this further and help educate enthusiasts in relevance to their goals in relation to fitness.
Healthy, Curious & Generous User Group
We were able to learn a lot about our target audience through these research samples, allowing us to paint a clear picture of how our users are perceived.
With this data, we can look to grant our users the social interactions they are seeking without interfering with social norms within the gym environment. Gym Enthusiasts are healthy and curious to which can foster great conversation and learning that we can use to establish a clear persona for our target audience.

Ideation - Sketch Notes & Design Development
With a clear intention on forming connections for our users alongside the established personas of our target audience we understood the importance of involving key features in relation to the goal of improving their social situation.
A secondary focus was to help users learn more through their curious nature, attempting to create an all-in-one application for gym enthusiasts, to which we later learn was not ideal and in correlation with the problem statement to which was corrected later in the project.

Design Language & Branding
When developing a product, it is important to establish a clear design language with consistent branding that elevates the final product. We ensure that the elements involved in piecing Unite's branding together is relevant to our users and our goals.
We aimed to create a brand that is active, full of energy and looking to connect. Fully embracing gym & fitness into the brands culture and the energetic buzz throughout the colour scheme and logo design.

Iterative Prototyping
Taking our ideas and turning them into a reality through wireframes & user journey maps was no easy task. Initially narrowing down on ideas based on priority and justifiable use cases we formed the first user journey map as seen below, after each user testing session we refined the product ending up with a redesigned navigation menu consisting of different pages to when we first started largely due to ensuring we are adding value for our users.
